Multi-Platform
DAW Console with Monitor Section
Our
newest console, MotorMate,
follows on the heels of our Blue Ribbon award-winning first
product, MotorMix. The MotorMate Console features
100mm, precision touch-sensitive faders, and an 80 character
display for easy viewing of track labels, pan positions, send
levels and plug-ins. The 8 endless rotary pots are high res
single turn types superior to any other control surface. Connect
your mix outputs to the MIM (monitor interface module) which is
included with each MotorMate, for on/off and level
control of control room and studio speaker feeds. A third knob
controls the level sent to the front panel headphone jack. MotorMate
also has controls to control our SixtyFour studio router
and our upcoming Tube MicPreamps so you can control all your
outboard gear's routing and levels (including surround decoders
and speaker sets) right from the console ! ! No other Console on
the market has this level of integration ! MotorMate
is also more compact than any other DAW console available. The
full sized transport switches and balanced aluminum jog-shuttle
wheel are strictly first cabin in quality and you will really
enjoy using them to speed through your editing. The Zoom
and Rotary sections each have one of our 5-way "Zoom
Sticks" which provide unparalleled Mix and Edit window
navigation. Pro Tools supports use of one MotorMate and
up to three MotorMix units to allow control of 32 channel
banks. There are plenty of "controllers" out there,
but nothing comes close to the look, quality, performance and
price of MotorMate |

design and 80 character backlit display window allow easy
viewing of your labels, pan positions, send levels and plug-ins
greatly reducing user fatigue.
Dashboards lower panel is the transport and editor
section. Full size transport keys and precision balanced milled
aluminum jog / shuttle / scrub wheel, are tuned to make
transport a breeze. A large centrally located timecode display
gives location information. Use the autolocator keypad to go
directly to any Edit marker.
Connect your mix outputs to the included Monitor Interface
Module, (MIM) mix inputs. The monitor section allows
control of control room, studio and local headphone levels.
Dashboard operates as a stand alone editor or a machine
remote for Pro Tools. It may also be used as the edit section in
a larger console in combination with MotorMix. Dashboard,
when used as the remote for SixtyFour, allows control of
routing and level for studio monitoring, including 5.1 surround.

Blue Ribbon
Award Winning Control Surface

MotorMix
is a professional compact and powerful control surface for
audio professionals who are tired of the literally hundreds of
passes necessary to mix and edit with point-and-click mixing
with a mouse. The small footprint belies the in depth access
to all of your DAW mixer functions.
MotorMix features a bright 80 character backlit display
for track labels, pan positions, send levels and plug-ins. The
view switches allow a single MotorMix to control any
number of channels, 8 at a time.
Each MotorMix channel features a long-throw motorized
fader, dedicated Mute and solo switches and a Burn
Button to control audio recording and automation. The
rotary pots give instant access to pans, aux sends, plug-ins,
input-output assignments and channel automation modes. MotorMix
is sized to fit on any desktop and is light enough to move
aside or put on your lap for eyes closed mixing.
The Fader flip option
is a really slick way to set up your aux levels quickly
using the motorized faders.
MotorMix
functions as a stand alone controller or as an 8 channel
expansion unit for Dashboard or MotorMate.
Here
is a review of MotorMix:
MotorMix is the most compact
unit of its kind that I have seen, with motorized faders. CM
Labs seems acutely aware of the variety of studio situations
in which this product is bound to be used. MotorMix conserves
physical space, yet the layout is roomy and comfortable. In
addition, multiple MotorMix controllers can be mechanically
connected into a single "linear" package or with
"wedge" inserts (available from CMLABS.net) to form
an arc. Some of the 56 back-lit switches are labeled, while
others are strictly user-defined, and all can be applied to a
variety of mixer, transport and plug-in functions. The first
thing you'll notice about MotorMix is its rock-solid feel.
From the full-throw 100mm faders to the 40-column by two-row
alphanumeric display, the unit feels totally pro with no
"flexing" of any kind when a switch is pressed. A
quick peek under the hood reveals high-quality Fiberglas-epoxy
circuit boards with plenty of support. This is not a
disposable product but one that can grow with your needs.
CM Labs also makes
"Dashboard", a dedicated transport controller with a
large jog/shuttle wheel. MotorMix connects to your workstation
via MIDI in and out ports. (There is also a 9-pin accessory
connector.) Some workstations support multiple MotorMix units
Pro Tools accepts up to four. Workstation manufacturers
are responsible for supplying the appropriate drivers. For
example, Console Manager is the Soundscape applet that allows
users to select MotorMix from a list of supported controllers.
Within Soundscape's Settings menu is a user option to boot
Console Manager along with the workstation. Once this is done
the first time, simply select "Save Settings," and
it becomes transparent.
The unit I tested was running
Version 1.08 firmware with Version 2.0 of the operator's
manual. Firmware can be updated in the field. While the manual
focuses on the Pro Tools interface, MotorMix can be used with
a variety of workstations, including Minnetonka's stereo and
5.1 surround software. Working on my Soundscape system, I got
right to work on a mix from scratch, and it sure was great to
be able to put down the mouse and simply audition individual
tracks. All of my onscreen track labels showed up in
MotorMix's LCD above each channel strip. MotorMix can only
display four characters for each channel. Thus, I modified
some of the onscreen track descriptions to make the most of
what could be displayed on the LCD. At the upper left corner
of the controller is a pair of View buttons that advance
channel access to either the next bank of eight or the next
group of four, depending on which of those switches is
selected. To take full advantage of the 100mm faders and of
Soundscape's automation, some global levels are set onscreen.
For example, "overdriven" electric guitars can be
recorded hot, resulting in fader positions 20 dB down from
nominal. Automation systems do not have as much resolution in
this area; trimming the track's level down 20 dB allowed the
fader to "live" at nominal. From this point, I made
all fader and mute moves from MotorMix, including lead vocal
composites. MotorMix always responded with speed and
precision.

CM Labs SixtyFour
sits between all your Pro Tools analog inputs/outputs and
the rest of your analog studio gear. With the SixtyFour
you create a patch-cord-free fully automated studio. All of
your instrument, mic preamp, DAT, outboard effects and Pro
Tools line outputs are fed into the source inputs of the SixtyFour.
The outputs of the SixtyFour are fed into your
speakers, headphones, dubbing machines, outboard gear and
Pro Tools inputs.
Use the SixtyFour to configure both the routing and
level settings for your studio and save them to one of the SixtyFours
90 memories. During tracking, set up a memory to patch mic
preamps or instrument inputs into your Pro Tools analog
inputs and turn off the studio speakers. Set up another
memory for studio playback with input sources off. The
metering system is indispensable for studio alignment,
maintenance and troubleshooting.
Our MotorMate and Dashboard can both be remote
command stations for Pro Tools and the SixtyFour.

Connector
The
CM Labs PM-216 is an automated audio router and 2
buss mixer. It delivers a 16 x 16 audio switching matrix
which allows any source to be routed to any or all
destinations. All switching is instantaneous and silent.
Use the PM-216 just like a patchbay. Set up patches
for recording inputs into your DAW and monitoring outputs
and save to one of the 64 available memories As with our SixtyFour,
you may route your monitor speakers and phones directly
from the PM-216. During tracking, set up a memory
to patch mic preamps or instrument inputs into your DAW
analog inputs and turn off the studio speakers. Set up
